Keep the Old Reference Until the New Phone Is Checked
Using Ledger Live on a new Android phone is usually an interface handover. The companion app is now Ledger Wallet. Keep a recognizable reference to the intended accounts while establishing the new installation, rather than assuming a phone transfer tool has reproduced every wallet setting.
The phone is not the blockchain destination for your assets. Replacing it does not itself require sending funds or generating another recovery phrase on the hardware.
Prepare Only the Information You Need
Privately record the relevant chains, public account identifiers, and useful local labels. Retain provider records that matter to your own history. A token symbol or nickname can be ambiguous, particularly across several networks.
Do not include backup words in a migration document, photograph, or message. Confirm you can unlock the genuine configured Ledger using its controls. If that hardware access is unavailable, resolve it separately instead of expecting a fresh phone download to provide signing authority.
Install and Prove the Connection First
Use the Android option on Ledger’s download page and check the current Play listing for this phone. Complete eligible phone updates and installation before starting account reconstruction.
Choose a supported transport for the Ledger model. Bluetooth models such as Nano X, Stax, and Flex require the app’s discovery permission and deliberate pairing. Compare codes when the flow presents them, with both devices visible.
Nano S Plus lacks Bluetooth and uses a compatible Android USB OTG/data path. The new phone’s connector shape does not prove the complete cable, adapter, and host arrangement works. Confirm recognition before interpreting an empty account screen.
Reconnect Rather Than Reinitialize
Select existing-device onboarding for hardware already protecting your assets. Perform the genuine check and add supported accounts or use the current supported sharing flow. Compare actual network and public account identity against your private reference.
Local names and display settings may differ after that process. Recreate them after the underlying account is correct. A mismatch in organization is not a reason to reset the Ledger or initialize unrelated wallet keys.
The Android app must not collect the recovery phrase to validate the new phone. Intentional hardware restoration, if genuinely required, belongs on appropriate hardware and is separate from this handover.
Verify the New Setup Before Retiring the Old One
Confirm an intended account refresh and a legitimate hardware interaction. Request a receive address and compare it fully on the Ledger display. Use official pairing help if the connection itself needs repair rather than erasing the wallet.
Let any actively progressing device OS installation finish before switching its host, restarting apps, or testing cables. Check the real status of a payment previously approved on the old phone before recreating it on the new interface.
Handover Questions
Does Phone Disposal Require Erasing the Ledger?
Phone-data removal and wallet initialization are separate tasks. Follow the phone manufacturer’s disposal process after verifying the new interface without unnecessarily changing the hardware’s wallet identity.
Will Every Service Transfer Identically?
Check current provider availability, region, and feature support. Matching blockchain accounts do not guarantee that every optional service or local preference appears the same way.
