Choose the Mac Installation Route Deliberately

For a Ledger Live Mac install, begin by choosing the edition you intend to maintain. The software is currently named Ledger Wallet. Ledger offers a dedicated macOS desktop download, while its Apple store listing has separate compatibility and distribution information. Do not assume two download routes produce an identical installation workflow.

Identify the Mac’s system version and processor in About This Mac, then compare with the current requirements for the selected package. The MacBook or iMac family name alone cannot establish support for a particular app release.

Establish the Official Package

Use Ledger’s Mac download option for the dedicated desktop route. Observe the completed transfer and saved location. A browser item that remains incomplete is not yet ready for image mounting or app installation.

Retain the package identity if a verification or security alert appears. A familiar icon and product name do not prove file authenticity. Resolve the exact alert rather than searching for another copy that prompts fewer questions.

Understand the Objects Finder Shows

With a disk-image distribution, the downloaded image, mounted contents, and application copied into Applications are different objects. Apple’s internet-app installation guide explains the normal system model. Follow the official package’s copying instructions instead of treating a mounted volume as the permanent application destination.

Once copying finishes, find the Applications copy directly and open it. Only then use or recreate a Dock shortcut for regular access. This helps prevent a shortcut from pointing into an old mounted image or another downloaded copy.

Read First-Open Messages Precisely

A normal first-open request and a warning about damage, tampering, or harmful software should not be treated as one obstacle. Apple’s Mac app security guidance describes the relevant categories. Do not disable Gatekeeper globally or remove quarantine attributes to manufacture successful installation.

If Finder reports a write or replacement error, record the destination and whether another ordinary idle app copy is open. A managed-computer restriction requires the approved administrative process. Extra privileges cannot authenticate a damaged package.

Bring Existing Hardware into the New Interface

Use the appropriate USB data connection for dedicated desktop device operations. Unlock the Mac and read any relevant accessory request, then unlock the Ledger locally and follow its current prompts. Power reaching the device is not proof that data access has been granted.

Select existing-device onboarding for initialized hardware. Install needed coin apps where appropriate and add the supported accounts on their actual networks. An empty new local portfolio is not an instruction to create a different hardware wallet.

Should the disk image remain my normal launch location?

For the desktop copying workflow, use the installed destination after completion. Check the actual object your shortcut opens instead of depending on the continued presence of the download.

Can the Mac password replace a hardware confirmation?

No. Operating system consent and transaction approval have different roles. A successful installation does not remove the need to review intended actions on the signer.

Does installation require the recovery phrase on the Mac?

It does not. Keep backup words offline and use them only on hardware during an intentional documented restoration. A working initialized device can supply account information without software phrase entry.
