Make the Preservation Decision Before Removal
A Ledger Live MacBook reinstall is easier to assess when you decide which local records matter beforehand. Ledger Wallet is the present app name. Replacing its program files and rebuilding its local account organization are separate choices, even if an uninstall utility offers both together.
Your signing device can remain configured throughout an interface replacement. Do not generate another hardware wallet simply because the MacBook begins onboarding again. The objective is usually to reconnect the existing accounts, not create a different key set.
Prepare a Small Account Reference
Privately note the assets, networks, relevant account formats and labels you intend to restore. Retain any provider receipts or exports needed for accounting. Public blockchain information is not a private key, but a collection of addresses can reveal financial activity and should not be posted publicly.
Confirm access to the initialized Ledger associated with those accounts. If several configurations or an additional passphrase are involved, identify that requirement without writing the secret into computer notes. A familiar nickname cannot substitute for matching wallet keys.
Select the Correct Software Route
Establish whether the old installation is a website desktop package or an Apple store edition. Use its current official replacement process, beginning with Ledger’s download information. Do not silently switch editions and assume identical requirements, settings or transports.
Before closing the app, ensure no hardware firmware installation is actively progressing. Finish ordinary work and use normal Mac removal or replacement controls. Read what the chosen action does to local data; a broad cleanup tool can remove more than the application bundle.
Test the New Installation Before Erasing More
Start the intended installed copy and confirm the release. If the same symptom persists, record whether the program files changed while the profile stayed intact. Apple’s app troubleshooting page treats reinstalling as a repair option with data consequences to consider.
A support-directed profile reset may be relevant to a retained local-data issue, but it should not be assumed to repair a remote outage or unsupported system. Keep each intervention tied to the failure being tested.
Recreate Organization After Account Identity
Connect existing hardware through the supported route and add the intended blockchain accounts. Install required device apps where necessary. Discovery should use the initialized device instead of a recovery phrase typed into the Mac.
Compare public history and device-verified receiving information before assigning old labels. Let scans complete and review the valuation currency. An incomplete account list or changed display preference can make the portfolio appear different without moving funds.
Reinstallation Questions
Will the old app-lock password disappear?
That depends on which local state remained. Program replacement is not automatically a forgotten-password reset; identify the documented recovery process for that separate issue.
What if the only signing device is missing?
Preserve useful accessible account records while assessing prepared recovery options. Reinstalling cannot reconstruct absent private keys from an email address or export.
Can I use a new empty account as proof of restoration?
Verify the actual network, wallet configuration and prior public history. A newly offered account is not sufficient evidence that all original accounts have been found, particularly where several configurations were used.
