Ledger Live Manual Update: Control the Package and Launch Destination

Use Manual Updating as an Observable Replacement

A Ledger Live manual update lets you control which supported host package is obtained and which installed copy is replaced. The app now uses the Ledger Wallet brand. The task is complete when that intended copy runs correctly, rather than when an updater notification disappears.

Start by identifying the component named in the original message. A device OS offer, a coin-app requirement, and a desktop client update have separate workflows. Do not interpret manual updating as permission to use unofficial device-flashing tools or bypass a component’s verification.

Collect a Before Record

If the program opens, note its version and installation location. Check what your regular shortcut starts. If it cannot launch, preserve the exact opening error and the package you were using. These details make the result of replacement assessable instead of relying on a remembered icon.

Also retain identifiers for any transaction or provider action whose outcome is uncertain. A new client can display a previous action’s updated status, but replacing software does not cancel the action itself.

Obtain a New Host Package Independently

Go through Ledger’s current download choices and select the supported platform. Inspect the browser completion result and saved file. A manual route still depends on a complete, authentic transfer; it does not make download warnings irrelevant.

Use the applicable method from Ledger’s package verification page. Match the reference to the exact release and file. Do not compare with a different platform’s value or a checksum supplied by an unverified distributor.

Perform Replacement Without Unrelated Cleanup

Finish Active Hardware Maintenance

If Ledger OS installation is visibly progressing, preserve that session before working on the host. For an ordinary idle desktop application, close it through the normal controls and check for duplicate copies occupying files.

Follow the Platform Procedure

Use the supported installer on Windows, the instructed application-copy process for a Mac desktop disk image, or the supported AppImage replacement on Linux. Check any write or policy error before retrying. More privileges are not a general answer to an integrity concern.

Retain the Profile Unless a Separate Repair Requires Otherwise

Manual package replacement and intentional account-data reset serve different purposes. Avoid adding broad deletion merely because an automatic updater failed. Local organization can be useful evidence while diagnosing the remaining problem.

Create an After Record

Launch the intended destination directly and compare its version with the package you obtained. Reconnect initialized hardware only when the next operation needs it. If the account view starts fresh, discover supported accounts from the matching device configuration instead of creating new wallet keys.

If your regular shortcut still opens another copy, correct its target after establishing which installation is current. Repeating replacement at the wrong destination cannot repair a launcher that continues pointing elsewhere.

Manual Update FAQ

Should the hardware display a new OS version afterward?

Only if you separately completed the appropriate Ledger OS update. Replacing the desktop client does not itself rewrite the signer’s firmware.

What if the same account operation still requests an update?

Read which layer is required. Device OS, coin apps, and dependencies can still need their own supported maintenance after the host is current.

Do I need to enter a backup to authenticate the package?

No. Software verification uses the publisher’s package evidence, not recovery words. Keep the backup away from installer dialogs, websites, and support messages.
