Treat the Download as an Identifiable Software Item
For a Ledger Live PC download, keep enough information to identify the file you later install. The product’s present name is Ledger Wallet. Source, selected platform and saved location form a practical receipt; a familiar icon alone cannot connect an executable to the publisher.
Most readers mean Windows by PC, but check the operating system actually installed. A Linux AppImage and a Windows installer are different packages. The computer’s marketing label does not determine which download it can execute.
Record Four Details Before Running Anything
- The verified publisher page from which you selected the package.
- The operating system and architecture for the current computer.
- The completed download’s original identity and destination.
- The release or verification reference used to assess that file.
Use the Ledger desktop download options to establish the source. If architecture support is unclear, ask about the actual release and machine rather than selecting a patched package advertised as universal.
Add Operating System Maintenance to Compatibility
On Windows, inspect the installed system and processor type in Settings. Compare them with current application requirements. Standard Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; Microsoft’s lifecycle information explains available paths and extended-update arrangements.
Confirm actual eligibility and coverage rather than assuming all Windows 10 computers receive extension automatically. App compatibility does not extend operating system maintenance. Conversely, an updated operating system does not establish that every package architecture is supported.
Verify the Finished Download, Not a Similar File
Wait for browser completion and use its recorded destination. If several attempts created several files, identify the one being assessed. The Ledger verification page should be matched to the relevant installer and release, not to an unrelated historical file.
A malware detection and a reputation message are different security events. Preserve the actual warning and keep an unresolved suspicious item blocked. Do not restore a quarantined binary solely because another file with the same product name passed checks.
Continue from Installer to Daily Application
Complete normal setup and start the installed program. Record its displayed release so later update reports have a reference. Reopening setup on every attempt is not the same as launching the wallet interface.
Use the existing-device branch for configured hardware and add supported accounts through its documented connection. Dedicated desktop access uses USB data. A failed cable test is a later hardware-access issue, not evidence that the browser downloaded the wrong file.
PC Download Questions
Must I connect the Ledger to obtain the installer?
The distribution file does not need proof of wallet ownership. Recovery words, a hardware PIN typed into a webpage or a verification payment are not download requirements.
Can I reuse the receipt for another computer?
Retain the file’s identity, but reassess current requirements and maintenance for the other host. A saved package is not a permanent support promise.
Why might the installed account list be empty?
A new local interface may not yet contain account entries. Discover them with the matching initialized device rather than creating different keys to fill the portfolio.
