Make the Setup Problem Specific
If Ledger Live setup is not working, describe the task you were completing before describing the app as broken. The current software name is Ledger Wallet. You might be placing the host app on a computer, connecting an initialized device, creating a new hardware wallet, or discovering an existing account.
The first failed boundary determines the next test. Keeping that boundary clear prevents a computer-network problem from becoming an unnecessary hardware restoration or a missing account label from becoming a newly generated wallet.
Use a Small Task Record
| Question | Useful evidence |
|---|---|
| Can the host application open? | Installed destination, version and launch result |
| Can it reach the intended device? | Model, transport and exact hardware screen |
| Can it discover the intended account? | Wallet configuration, asset and network |
| Can it refresh account information? | Data-service status and relevant public history |
Answer each question using observations, not an assumption based on a lit screen or familiar portfolio name. Successful account viewing can coexist with missing hardware access because public information and signing use different paths.
Repair the Host Before Changing Device Keys
If installation or launch fails, compare the system with the supported package from Ledger’s official app directory. Complete the download, read the specific system response, and open the intended installed copy.
Do not import a backup into software as a way to authorize installation. The public app package does not need control of your wallet. A security refusal or package mismatch deserves its own investigation before any sensitive hardware workflow.
Keep Hardware Onboarding Appropriate to Its State
Use existing-device onboarding for a Ledger that already holds the intended wallet configuration. A new computer can legitimately have no account entries. Preserve initialized hardware rather than selecting new-wallet creation to fill that view.
For a genuinely new device, follow its exact official first-use instructions. If the task is intentional recovery, complete it on the hardware with the correct backup and any required additional passphrase. Those key-management actions should not be introduced merely to repair a stalled host screen.
Connect and Discover Deliberately
Use the supported transport for the host and model, read the device’s current prompts, and close competing wallet sessions. On dedicated desktop software, check the USB data path before applying mobile Bluetooth instructions.
Ledger’s account and device-app reference explains why a coin app and a host account entry are separate. Install the requested supported device app where necessary, then discover the correct blockchain account and compare its public history.
Protect Other Work While Diagnosing
Let a progressing device OS installation finish before ordinary reconnect or restart tests. Retain any transaction or provider identifier if setup interruption followed approval. An interface returning to onboarding cannot determine whether an earlier external operation completed.
Setup FAQ
Why is a familiar account name insufficient?
Labels can be recreated or duplicated. The actual network, public account reference, and matching hardware configuration establish which account the interface displays.
Should I run every troubleshooting step at once?
Change one relevant condition and record its result. Simultaneous resets, cable changes, and reinstalls can remove useful evidence about the original failure.
What does support need first?
Describe the intended task, last completed checkpoint, exact error, platform, and device model. Keep secrets and unnecessary financial records out of the explanation.
