Compare the Running App With the File You Download
A Ledger Live update on Ubuntu can appear unsuccessful when the launcher still opens a different file. Ledger Wallet, formerly Ledger Live, is the current app name. Before updating, record the running version and AppImage path. Afterward, compare those same observations. This is more informative than assuming a newly saved download replaced every copy on the computer.
Separate Ubuntu Maintenance From Ledger Components
Ubuntu package updates, the downloaded host application, Ledger OS, and installed blockchain apps have separate maintenance paths. Updating system packages does not prove a standalone AppImage changed. Updating the host also does not complete the hardware’s OS installation. Read which component produced the prompt before selecting a procedure.
Allow any progressing device OS installation to complete with its supported connection preserved. Replacing or restarting the Linux host in the middle of that operation can interfere with it. If the device is already in a failed update state, use its exact model guidance before ordinary host maintenance.
Obtain a Compatible Official Release
Review the Ubuntu release and selected architecture against Ledger’s installation requirements. Follow the supported in-app updater when appropriate or obtain the intended file from the official Linux download route. Do not choose a mirror merely because it preserves the old filename your shortcut expects.
If a transfer fails, keep the download error separate from a replacement error. Successful delivery can still be followed by a refused write to a protected destination. Inspect that destination and any running file lock rather than elevating the entire wallet process or broadly changing directory ownership.
Check Runtime Requirements From Actual Evidence
A newly launched release may report a runtime problem after an Ubuntu change. Preserve the first message. For FUSE-related cases, consult the AppImage dependency guide. Package names differ by Ubuntu release, and FUSE 3 being installed does not alone establish that a requested compatibility library exists.
Read proposed package-manager changes before approving them. Do not remove core desktop support, replace libraries from another machine, or add a sandbox-disabling launch option as a permanent update strategy. A supported normal launch remains the objective, with an understood environment rather than hidden warnings.
Reconnect the Everyday Launch Path
Close the ordinary idle client when the platform process requires it and replace the intended binary without deliberately erasing account data. Open the new artifact directly, inspect its version, then align your launcher with that path. Test the launcher again before removing obsolete copies. Keep filenames and locations sufficiently clear for later support.
Review local accounts and allow data retrieval to finish. If the original operation now requests a blockchain-app update, follow that component’s requirements instead of reinstalling the Ubuntu host indefinitely. A later network-data issue should also remain separate from successful program replacement.
Ubuntu Update Questions
Does a welcome screen require a new wallet?
No. Use existing-device onboarding when the Ledger is already configured. Add the intended accounts rather than generating unrelated secrets to fill the interface.
What should the host never request?
It should not collect your recovery words to activate the updated software. Keep that backup private and use hardware input only during an intentional supported device restoration.
