Know Which Component the Update Prompt Names
A Ledger Live update on Windows 11 can coincide with several other maintenance prompts. The companion application is now Ledger Wallet, while Ledger OS runs on the device and individual blockchain apps have their own versions. Windows Update maintains another layer. Identify the component before choosing an action.
This distinction matters when one update finishes but another prompt remains. A new desktop version does not prove that the hardware software changed, and a blockchain-app requirement does not automatically mean the computer installer failed.
Establish a Small Maintenance Record
Record the installed application version and its location. Finish pending financial activity and check its outcome before starting ordinary app maintenance. Let an active device-software installation continue under its instructions rather than closing the host to make room for another updater.
Check the PC’s current Windows release, architecture, and available storage against the publisher’s Windows distribution information. Do not rely on an old installation screenshot to establish support for the newest package.
Choose the Documented Route Once
Use the supported app update when offered, or the official installer for a manual replacement where current guidance directs it. Keep the package source identifiable and avoid launching another attempt while the first still has an unanswered dialog.
Read Windows authorization and security messages separately. A normal consent prompt asks about a system change, while a threat detection questions a file. Microsoft’s application-protection overview helps distinguish relevant controls. Neither category should be solved through blanket protection removal.
If a managed PC prohibits installation, provide the administrator with the actual message. Renaming an installer, obtaining another mirror, or making every app launch elevated does not establish an approved supported setup.
Verify the New Executable Before Account Tasks
After the expected relaunch, inspect the running version and shortcut target. If the old version appears, determine which copy opened and whether replacement completed. Repeated downloading without this check can leave the same old executable in daily use.
Then refresh one known account and test the supported USB hardware interaction when needed. Review Ledger’s service dashboard if account data fails. A remote incident can coexist with a successfully updated Windows app.
Review Differences Without Resetting Everything
Check local account visibility and preferences after maintenance. A renamed menu or different layout is not evidence that wallet keys changed. If an account is absent, inspect the network and supported discovery flow before deciding that funds must be moved.
The update should never collect recovery words in Windows or require a validation payment. Keep the existing hardware configuration. Any intentional restoration of secrets belongs on appropriate hardware, not in a desktop update form.
Component Questions
Why Might a Prompt Return After Relaunch?
It may name another component or an old application copy may still be running. Record the prompt’s full text and version context before repeating installation.
Must I Make a Transaction to Confirm the Update?
No. Version inspection, account-data access, and hardware recognition provide useful checks without an unnecessary financial action. Review a later transaction independently on the device.
