Ledger Live Windows Update: Keep a Simple Component Version Log

Record the Component Before Starting Maintenance

For a Ledger Live Windows update, keep a brief version log that identifies what you are changing. Ledger Wallet is the companion program’s current name. A computer app release, Ledger OS version and installed coin app each describe a different component, even if maintenance happens in the same session.

Your log does not need secret wallet information. Record the app location and release, Windows configuration and exact update offer. If hardware maintenance is also planned, add its model and relevant version separately rather than using one combined note saying everything is current.

Define the Evidence of Completion

Component Useful completion evidence
Windows companion app The intended installed copy reports the expected supported release.
Ledger OS The model’s update procedure finishes and the device returns to its documented normal state.
Device coin app The required supported app is installed and the intended account operation can be tested.

This prevents a completed download being mistaken for completed replacement. It also prevents an account-data outage after installation from being mistaken for a failed program update.

Select the Supported Computer Route

Use the genuine app’s documented update mechanism or the official Windows installer for appropriate manual replacement. Check current requirements against the actual architecture and operating system. Do not infer support from another PC’s screenshot.

If the host runs Windows 10, review Microsoft’s maintenance information separately. Its standard support ended in 2025, and extended-update arrangements require their own eligibility and coverage assessment. Updating Ledger does not change that lifecycle.

Finish One Change Before Judging Another

Allow the selected updater or installer to proceed, reading its dialogs. If setup needs an idle old application closed, finish ordinary tasks first. Do not interrupt an actively progressing Ledger OS installation to perform a routine Windows relaunch.

For a threat or invalid-signature event, preserve the exact file and detection. A historical false-positive notice does not approve today’s object. Keep protection enabled while seeking the relevant vendor resolution rather than adding blanket exclusions.

Reopen the Intended Installation

Inspect the displayed release and executable location after relaunch. Then use the daily shortcut and verify it reaches that same copy. A new package in Downloads does not prove the old shortcut’s target changed.

Retest a read-only account operation and hardware recognition separately. If one fails, add that specific result to the log. Avoid creating a financial transaction merely as proof that software updated; an existing pending action should be checked through its real identifier before any retry.

Version-Log Questions

Does the log need account passwords or backup words?

No. Technical versions and outcomes establish maintenance state. Recovery words remain offline, and the hardware PIN is entered using the Ledger’s controls.

Should an absent hardware update be recorded as failure?

Check the current offer for the model and installed version. A device OS release and computer release need not share numbers or availability.

Why preserve the failed prompt?

It identifies which component and operation were unfinished. That detail lets support address the actual update boundary instead of recommending another unrelated reinstall.
