Ledger Live Desktop Setup: Build a Recognizable Account Workspace

Organize Setup Around the Account You Expect

Ledger Live desktop setup is easier when you begin with a recognizable account rather than an unfamiliar portfolio total. The application is now known as Ledger Wallet. Your goal is to connect the appropriate signing configuration and display the supported accounts you intend to use on this computer.

For a wallet you already manage elsewhere, privately note an asset, its actual network, and a relevant public account reference. A label such as Main Wallet is editable and cannot establish account identity. Protect these records as financial information even though they are not private keys.

Establish a Working Host Interface

Obtain the supported desktop package through the official Ledger app route. Complete the platform installation and open the installed copy. Resolve an installer or first-launch failure before changing hardware settings to compensate for a computer problem.

For dedicated desktop device access, prepare a USB cable that supports data. Keep the first session simple, with unnecessary hubs removed for comparison where practical. Another browser wallet already using the signer can interfere with the connection you are about to establish.

Choose Hardware Handling from Its Real State

If the device already controls your accounts, keep its initialized configuration and select the corresponding onboarding path. Unlock it with its physical controls. Do not create a fresh recovery phrase simply because the desktop application has no saved account list.

If the hardware is new, follow its exact model’s instructions for first use, PIN, and recovery backup. If it is intentionally being restored, perform that documented recovery on the device. These choices concern wallet keys and are more consequential than changing an app preference.

Separate Coin Applications from Account Entries

Ledger explains the relationship in its apps and accounts guide. Device apps enable supported blockchain operations, while the host account entries provide the portfolio view. Finding a coin app on the Ledger does not prove every associated account is already listed on this computer.

Install or update the requested supported coin app when necessary, then run account discovery for the right chain. Read which accounts were found and finish adding the intended ones. Tokens available on several networks require special attention to the network choice.

Verify Identity Before Personalizing

Public History

Compare a known operation with the account you added. A matching label is weaker evidence than matching account details and relevant history. Allow the data refresh to finish before comparing asset quantities.

Additional Passphrase Configuration

If your original account used an additional passphrase, use that same configuration. The app lock and hardware PIN serve different roles; they cannot substitute for it during account discovery or signing.

Receiving Address

Use the supported Receive process and compare the destination on the hardware display before sharing it. The sender’s chosen blockchain must also match the receiving account, even when address formats look similar across chains.

Finish the Local Workspace

Once identity is established, recreate useful labels and display preferences. Review the available privacy-lock options for this installation. Keep credentials and recovery backups separate, and avoid putting wallet words into ordinary setup notes or cloud screenshots.

Setup FAQ

Is moving to a desktop a blockchain transfer?

Connecting another supported interface to existing hardware is not itself a transfer. New addresses or a new wallet are not required merely because the host computer changed.

Why does the market-value total look different?

Account selection, refresh state, token display, and selected fiat currency can affect the view. Compare the actual account and asset quantity before diagnosing a lost balance.

What should I record if setup stops?

Note the exact unfinished step, device screen, model, platform, and error. Share reviewed diagnostics through official support without revealing the recovery backup or PIN.
