Treat the Button as a Sequence of Operations
Ledger Live Install and relaunch combines a host-software replacement with opening the resulting client. The program is now named Ledger Wallet. When the sequence fails, determine whether installation stopped, the expected process never reopened, or a different installed copy appeared.
Record the version and destination before another attempt if accessible. That information helps you assess the outcome without relying on an icon, a vanished notification, or the assumption that every reopened window is the new version.
Preserve the Session Before Replacement
Finish ordinary application work and keep references for unresolved transactions or provider orders. If a Ledger OS installation is visibly advancing on the hardware, let it complete through the supported flow before performing computer-client maintenance.
Check available storage and look for an idle duplicate client. A hidden consent window or a second application holding files can stop host replacement. Repeatedly pressing the button is less informative than watching one attempt and retaining its actual response.
Read the First Outcome
The Installer Refuses to Continue
Keep the exact destination, security message, or policy error. Resolve that category through supported guidance. Elevating privileges or removing protections cannot establish the authenticity of a package whose integrity remains uncertain.
Installation Finishes but No Window Returns
Locate the intended installed app and open it directly once. If it launches, check the version before repairing a shortcut. If it closes or stays blank, record that startup result separately from the updater’s earlier installation stage.
Another Copy Starts
Compare file locations. A Mac disk image, old AppImage target, or stale Windows shortcut can open a different object from the destination you replaced. Updating one location repeatedly cannot change what an unrelated launcher starts.
Use the Official Manual Alternative Where Appropriate
Obtain the supported package through Ledger’s official application page if automatic replacement cannot complete. Close the ordinary idle client and use the normal platform process. A manual route should still retain package verification and current compatibility checks.
Keep local-profile removal out of that process unless a separate documented diagnosis calls for it. Local account organization and service records can survive a binary replacement, but a broader reset may discard them and require reconstruction.
Complete the Maintenance Record
After a normal launch, inspect the running version and account view. Reconnect initialized hardware for tasks that require it. If the interface starts with no accounts, use the existing-device path and discover the appropriate supported networks rather than creating new keys.
Ledger’s device-app update explanation is relevant if the next operation requests another software layer. Host replacement and device or coin-app maintenance are separate outcomes, even when their prompts appear close together.
Install and Relaunch FAQ
Does the disappearing updater prove a successful update?
No. Confirm the installed destination and the version actually running. A window closing establishes only that the previous process ended or changed state.
Can a restart cancel a transfer I approved?
Check the chain or provider record. A client restart does not retract a request already received elsewhere, so another send can become a separate payment.
Is backup entry needed to relaunch?
No recovery words belong in a host restart dialog. Keep the initialized signer and its offline backup separate from software-distribution troubleshooting.
What should I report if the loop continues?
Provide the platform, before-and-after versions, actual paths, exact installer result, and launch behavior. Share reviewed technical diagnostics without passwords, PINs, or recovery material.
