Name the Operation That Has Stopped
If a Ledger Live installation is stuck, identify the process still on screen before choosing a restart. The publisher now calls the application Ledger Wallet. Browser transfer, system installation, first-run onboarding, and Ledger OS maintenance each use different controls and have different consequences if interrupted.
Take a note of the window title, message, and any progress that changes. Also read the physical device if connected. A hardware update that is still advancing takes precedence over ordinary experiments with a desktop setup window.
Establish What Has Already Completed
Check whether the package finished downloading, whether an installed application exists, and whether it can be launched directly. These are independent observations. A slow account scan after successful launch does not mean the operating system is still copying the application.
Use the current package and platform guidance from Ledger’s official distribution page. An unsupported system or wrong architecture will not become compatible because the progress indicator is left running longer.
Look for a Waiting Input or Resource
A Dialog Needs Attention
A save-location or system-consent window may be hidden behind the installer. Bring it forward and read it. Completing a justified prompt differs from dismissing a security warning without understanding why it appeared.
A Destination Is Unavailable
Review free space, target location, and the specific write error. An installer blocked by organization policy needs its approved administration process. Do not change broad filesystem permissions or remove protections to make one progress bar move.
Another Idle Process Holds Files
Check for an existing client or setup instance through ordinary operating system tools. Avoid running several replacements simultaneously. Close an ordinary idle conflicting copy only after establishing that it is not supporting a progressing device OS operation.
Choose the Supported Continuation
If this is a failed host installer, save the error, use its normal cancel or close route where available, and follow the platform’s current retry instructions. Keep one verified completed package so subsequent attempts use a known object.
If the device displays an update or special boot state, consult Ledger’s exact model guidance. A failed Nano update and a frozen Finder copy are not interchangeable conditions. Do not improvise button sequences or erase hardware because another installation guide recommends starting over.
Inspect the Next Stage After Recovery
Once an application opens, verify its version and installed location. Continue with the correct existing-device or new-device workflow. A fresh host interface does not require replacing the key configuration of a working signer.
If only public account data fails to load, investigate the relevant online service. An unavailable server is outside the local installer and should not trigger another round of profile deletion. Preserve useful local records while narrowing the remaining failure.
Stalled Installation FAQ
Can a fixed waiting limit tell me when to unplug?
No single limit covers a download, copying task, hidden prompt, and firmware installation. Use actual progress and the supported instructions for the operation identified.
Does a complete-looking bar prove installation worked?
Test the expected installed application directly. A progress graphic alone does not prove that the correct version can launch and complete the later workflow.
What should I send when the same stage fails again?
Provide the platform, package identity, exact stage, messages, device state, and controlled steps tried. Recovery words and hardware credentials are irrelevant to a computer installation report and must stay private.
