Start with What Changed Since the Last Session
When Ledger Live will not open on a MacBook, consider the session as well as the application. The current app name is Ledger Wallet. Returning from travel, using another Mac user or connecting a different monitor can change what you observe without establishing a single universal cause.
Describe the failed launch in concrete terms: an error appeared, a process exited or no usable window was visible. Do not start by treating a blank portfolio, absent shortcut and security rejection as the same condition.
Example: a Dock Shortcut Works Differently at Home
Imagine that a shortcut was created while an installer image was mounted. Later, the user returns to the laptop and the volume is gone. Checking the shortcut’s target can answer that case more directly than resetting local accounts or troubleshooting the hardware cable.
Open the intended Applications copy directly and record its version. If that works, correct the launch reference. If it fails too, save its exact message so the next test concerns the installed application rather than an uncertain shortcut.
Establish the Computer and User Context
Identify the actual MacBook model and installed macOS, not just the laptop’s purchase year. Apple’s model identification page helps distinguish MacBook generations and links to related laptop families. Compare the configuration with the Ledger Mac release you intend to run.
Also check whether you opened another operating system user account. Local application data and privacy settings can differ. An unfamiliar account view in a different profile is not evidence that the signing hardware changed its wallet keys.
Use a Normal Startup Comparison
Check for an existing app instance and visible windows on other displays. When the process is idle and no device software is being installed, use normal closing and reopening controls. Apple’s app-response guide provides basic restart and update steps.
If the window appears only after returning to the usual display arrangement, report that reproducible condition. Do not claim that a monitor change repairs every launch fault. One controlled result is evidence, not a guarantee about other configurations.
Separate Software Refusal from Device Access
A macOS security alert should be evaluated against the verified package and exact wording. A harmful-file warning is not a request for more wallet permissions. Keep protection intact while an unresolved serious alert is investigated.
If the app opens but stalls only when the Ledger connects, describe that later boundary. Desktop access uses USB data and may involve laptop accessory approval. Preserve initialized hardware; a failure to open the Mac interface never requires typing its recovery phrase into computer software.
MacBook Session Questions
Could a local lock hide the account interface?
An optional app lock is separate from the hardware PIN. Identify the actual prompt before using a forgotten-password route, which can affect local records.
What if the laptop no longer meets requirements?
Review supported system upgrades or another compatible host. Do not turn an archived executable into a presumed permanent solution without current publisher guidance.
What is the best support starting point?
Provide the observed outcome, installed location, user context, system and app versions, and the last working arrangement. Include only relevant diagnostics after checking them for personal information.
