Decide Which Update Session You Are Starting
A Ledger Live MacBook update can be limited to the computer program or include maintenance of the Ledger itself. Ledger Wallet is the companion’s current name. These sessions have different interruption risks, so decide the scope before closing the laptop or moving between connections.
The computer program, Ledger OS and device coin apps have independent roles. A release number on the Mac is not the hardware OS version, and an account prompt requesting a coin-app update does not necessarily mean the desktop installer failed.
Compare the Two Plans
| Plan | Intended result | Important check |
|---|---|---|
| Companion application only | A supported installed Mac release opens | Verify replacement and the shortcut’s actual target. |
| Device maintenance too | The model’s OS and required apps complete their supported procedures | Maintain the connection while hardware installation progresses. |
Ledger’s component maintenance instructions describe the sequence. Read the model-specific guidance rather than using one generic relaunch rule for both plans.
Prepare Before the Laptop Must Move
Use a trusted connection, available storage and an appropriately powered MacBook. Schedule device maintenance when you can leave its connection stable. A battery or travel deadline should not lead to improvising a disconnect during an active installation. If you are about to switch from home Wi-Fi to a train connection, postpone device installation until the host and cable can remain in a stable arrangement.
Check the installed system against the current Mac software offering. If macOS itself needs changing, Apple’s system update guidance covers that separate task. Keep a record of which layer you actually changed.
Complete the Computer Replacement Clearly
Follow the genuine app’s updater or the current official manual package when appropriate. Finish copying and open the Applications destination directly. Compare its release before testing the shortcut used every day; a second copy can otherwise conceal a completed update.
Read permission and security dialogs instead of clicking through them automatically. A verified source and a normal installation process matter even when the laptop needs to be packed away soon. Do not use a privately supplied emergency package.
Return to the Intended Account Task
If hardware was maintained, confirm its expected normal state and required device apps first. Then test the specific account operation. A public-history refresh may depend on online services separately from the completed update.
Keep pending transaction hashes and provider references private but available. Updating an interface does not cancel an earlier signed action. Inspect that action before creating another transfer after relaunch.
Laptop Update Questions
Does the backup reminder mean typing words into the Mac?
No. Preparing a usable offline backup before device maintenance is different from disclosing it. Ordinary software updating does not require a phrase-entry form.
Should I change every component in one untracked session?
Record each completed step. If a problem appears, knowing which application or device layer changed is more useful than an assumption that everything was updated together.
Why is a missing account still possible after updating?
Local account inclusion, selected network and synchronization can differ independently of software release. Verify the actual account rather than judging only its nickname or combined portfolio valuation.
