Ledger Live Windows Keeps Crashing: Find the Failing Boundary

Separate a Process Exit from a Waiting Interface

If Ledger Live keeps crashing on Windows, establish that the process actually terminates. The app is now called Ledger Wallet. A blocked executable, a window waiting for data and a confirmed process crash may appear similar but should have different descriptions in a support report.

Note the last successful action and whether Windows supplies an error. Keep its time and wording. Avoid changing the environment before preserving that first useful observation, particularly if repeated launches generate several unrelated entries.

Compare Ordinary Read-Only Boundaries

Comparison What the difference can clarify
Launch versus opening an account Whether startup completes before the fault appears.
Another existing account versus one asset Whether the trigger is narrow or shared.
Idle launch versus a hardware task Whether device access begins before the exit.

Perform only appropriate comparisons with no active device update or signing operation. These observations locate a boundary; they do not by themselves prove corruption, hardware failure or a particular system dependency.

Follow a Named Windows Error

If a component or runtime is identified, preserve the details and consult Ledger’s Windows crash reference. A Microsoft runtime repair should be supported by the error and current instructions and obtained from Microsoft, not an individual DLL site.

If security software removed a file, read the event instead of treating it as an ordinary runtime fault. Keep unresolved detections blocked while verifying the package. More privileges or a broad exclusion do not explain why the executable stopped.

Check a Known Supported Installation

Compare the current host with the Ledger Windows requirements. Complete normal system restarts where appropriate and identify the installed application location. A shortcut to an old copy can undermine every comparison made against the supposed new version.

A normal reinstall may replace executables while leaving local configuration. If the same retained profile is suspected, use targeted official instructions after preserving needed records privately. Do not assume every reinstall already tested a fresh local state.

Protect Wallet Access While Investigating

Keep the configured Ledger intact so supported accounts can be rediscovered after any justified local reset. The desktop app password, Windows credential and hardware PIN have different functions. Recovery words do not belong in a crash utility or diagnostic upload.

If the exit followed hardware approval, check the actual blockchain operation before retrying. A process crash cannot revoke a signature or establish whether broadcast reached the network. Retain the relevant provider reference too when a service order is involved.

Crash-Boundary Questions

What if other Windows programs crash as well?

Report that wider scope and investigate the computer’s system condition. Repeatedly deleting Ledger account data would not establish why unrelated programs are unstable.

Should I run every session as administrator?

Do not use permanent elevation as the default. Identify an actual documented privilege need for the specific repair rather than giving the unexplained failing process broader access.

Which report should support receive?

Use the relevant event, system and app versions, observed boundary and controlled results. Review attachments for unnecessary financial or personal details before sending them privately.
